Mycoplasma Testing for Cell Culture

Mycoplasma contamination is a pervasive problem in cell culture. Although invisible to the naked eye, mycoplasma can significantly affect cell physiology, leading to biased experimental results and compromised data integrity.  Regular mycoplasma testing is critical to maintaining reliable cell cultures. Microsynth’s mycoplasma testing offers a rapid test of heat-inactivated cell culture supernatant for the presence of mycoplasma species using a qPCR assay. The assay detects multiple mycoplasma species, including those listed in the European Pharmacopoeia.

Features and Benefits

Secure
  • Integrated performance control readily identifies PCR inhibitors that typically lead to false-negative findings
  • Report positive/negative or presence of PCR inhibition

Easy-to-use
  • Use our cost-free pickup service and drop your samples into one of our numerous collection boxes in Europe. Alternatively send us your samples with your preferred postal service at room temperature.

Reduce Your Risk
  • Fast and reliable mycoplasma testing by Microsynth a provider with many years of experience
  • Don't risk working with contaminated cell lines

Convenient
  • The report is suitable for the direct submission to journals or funding agencies.

How it Works

  • Cultivate cells for a minimum of three days (72 h) without modifying the medium before collecting the supernatant for mycoplasma testing.
  • Collect 1000 μl of the cell-free supernatant in a screw cap tube or similar container that provides a tight seal during heat inactivation.
  • Centrifuge the sample at 750 x g for 2 minutes to pellet remaining cells and cellular debris.
  • Transfer 150 µl of the supernatant to a new 1.5 ml flip-cap tube.
  • Heat Inactivation: Incubate the tube containing the supernatant at 95°C for 10 minutes.
  • Label the tube with a short, legible, and unique sample name on the tube wall.
